Introduction 

The Jharkhand High Court conducts the Jharkhand Judicial Service Exam every year for recruiting deserving candidates for Jharkhand Civil Judge Junior Division posts.   

Eligibility Criteria  

  • The candidate must possess an LLB degree from a university preferably recognized by Bar Council of India.  
  • Up until the last date of form submission, they must be enrolled as an Advocate.  
  • It is mandatory that the candidate have active and valid registration and application. 
    • A candidate cannot appear for the exam with a suspended registration.  
  • The candidate must be an Indian citizen.  
  • They must have good moral character without any criminal records. 
  • The minimum age for candidates appearing for Jharkhand Judiciary Exam is 22 years while the maximum is 35 years, up to the date mentioned in the high court notice.  
    • In case the candidate is female, or a member of a Scheduled Tribe or a Scheduled Caste, their upper age limit can be extended by 3 years. 

Exam Pattern 

The selection of candidates for Jharkhand judiciary recruitment will be done on the basis of a written examination. This exam includes two parts namely the Preliminary exam and Mains exam. The final part of the exam consists of an interview or a personality test. 

Here are the details of the Judiciary Exam Pattern for Jharkhand Civil Judge Recruitment: 

  • The Preliminary Entrance Test is a written exam with objective or Multiple-Choice type questions. 
  • The full marks for the Preliminary Exam are 100 marks. There shall be no negative marking. 
  • The duration of exam is 2 hours. 
  • Those candidates who are able to clear the Preliminary exam will be eligible for the Mains Exam.  
  • The Mains exam has 4 papers, each carrying 100 marks, making the total marks to be 400. 
  • The examiners will use oral communication for the viva-voce test. 

Prelims 

  • The primary stage of the recruitment process is the Prelims Exam. Candidates shall be tested on the following grounds considering the Jharkhand Judiciary Syllabus:

Preliminary Examination 

100 Marks (2 Hours) 

    • Current Affairs and General Knowledge 
    • General Knowledge of English 
    • The Code of Criminal Procedure, 1973 
    • The Code of Civil Procedure, 1908 
    • The Indian Contract Act, 1872 
    • The Indian Evidence Act, 1872 
    • The Indian Penal Code, 1860 

Mains 

  • The papers for the Mains Exam are as follows. There are four papers of 3 hours duration each.

Paper I 

(100 Marks) 

    • The Indian Penal Code, 1860 
    • The Code of Criminal Procedure, 1973 
    • The Code of Civil Procedure, 1908 
    • The Indian Evidence Act, 1872 
    • The Limitation Act, 1963 

Paper II  

(100 Marks) 

    • The Transfer of Property Act, 1882 
    • The Contract Act, 1872 
    • The Arbitration and Conciliation Act, 1996 
    • The Sales of Goods Act, 1930 
    • The Negotiable Instruments Act, 1881 

Paper III 

(100 Marls) 

    • Muhammadan Law 
    • Hindu Law 
    • Jurisprudence  
    • The Specific Relief Act, 1963 
    • Rent Control Law 

Paper IV 

(100 Marks) 

English and Hindi Language Test with Translation, Paraphrasing, Precise Writing, and Essay. 

Interview 

  • The Viva-voce test holds 100 marks.  
  • In this test, will need to score at least 25% marks in order to qualify, if he/she belongs to the General Category.  
    • For SC/ST/EBC/OBC, the minimum marks required is 20%.
