Introduction

CJ Manmohan was born on 17th December 1962 in Delhi, he completed his schooling from Modern School, Delhi.

Career 

  • Chief Justice Manmohan was enrolled as an Advocate with the Bar Council of Delhi in the year 1987 and commenced his practice primarily in Supreme Court and in High court of Delhi majorly in Civil, Criminal, Constitution, Arbitration, taxation Service Litigation matters. 
  • Chief Justice Manmohan was appointed as a Senior Advocate by the High court inj the year 2003. 
  • He always takes an interest in extra judicial activities and has been a part of a range of seminars and conferences of National and International repute. 
  • He made his appearance in various important cases including Dabhol Power Company, Hyderabad Nizam’s Jewellery Trust matter, Claridges Hotel dispute. 
  • He was appointed as Additional Judge of Delhi High Court in the year 2008. 
  • He was appointed permanent judge of the High Court in 2009. 
  • Currently appointed as acting Chief Justice of Delhi High Court.  

Notable Judgments 

Landmark Judgments 

  • Presiding Officer Delhi School v. Govt. Of Nct of Delhi (2013):  
    • In this case the court set aside the order passed by the Delhi School Tribunal that only Delhi school tribunal has the jurisdiction to deal with the present case and held that the Court also has the power to revive the cases as per the provisions of Industrial Dispute Act. 
  • State v. Kaishar Ali (2018):  
    • In this case the court refused to intervene with the decision passed by Additional Session Judge regarding a criminal petition where it was found that the woman wrongly represented her age and had consensual sexual intercourse with the respondent. 

Recent Judgments 

  • Bhushan Oil and Fats Pvt Ltd versus Mother Dairy Fruit and Vegetables Pvt Ltd (2023): 
    • The Delhi High Court has ruled that no appeal is maintainable under Order XLIII Rule 1 of the Code of Civil Procedure, 1908 (CPC) against the order of refusal of an application filed under Order VII Rule 11 seeking rejection of the plaint. 
  • Dharampal Satyapal Limited and Anr V. Union of India Through Secretary (2023):  
    • The Delhi High Court upheld the regulation issued by the Food Safety and Security Authority of India for increasing the warning size on the Pan Masala package.
